Ingredients
  

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 cup steel cut oats
  • 3 cups hot water
  • 1 cup 1% milk
  • 2 apples skinned and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 10 teaspoons pure maple syrup
  • 5 tablespoons chopped walnuts

Instructions
 

  • Melt butter in a pot over medium heat.
  • Add steel-cut oats and toast for 2 minutes.
  • Pour in hot water and cook on low heat.
  • Add chopped apples and all spices.
  • Stir in milk, vanilla, salt, and maple syrup.
  • Cook until thick and creamy (about 25–30 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  • Top with chopped walnuts and serve warm.
